“Only those who dare to fail greatly can ever achieve greatly.” - Robert F. Kennedy
Success doesn’t happen overnight, it’s the result of countless hours of practice, research and yes failure. Learning to learn and being curious of your surroundings, different opportunities, and literally “just going for it” is what leads a person to being successful.
How do we define and measure success? That’s the fun part. Everyone measures it differently. Some measure based on how much money a person makes. How important a person’s position in a company is. How many possessions a person has. How well done a person has raised a family etc.
There are so many ways to be “successful.” The reverse of that being that there are so many ways to fail at the same time. So after a while, because people are so scared to fail, they don’t even try. They stop being curious, they stop exploring, and ultimately they stop learning.
I personally measure success by happiness which is extremely subjective but at the end of the day, it works for me. It’s what keeps me curious, it’s what keeps me exploring, because I’m happy when I learn new things, try something different or experiment with other mediums.
When you’re open to taking different routes, you might discover that you should never take that route again because it took you an extra 10 minutes, or you should always take that route because it saved you a whole 10 minutes. That’s 10 extra minutes working, resting, with the important people in your life what have you.
People need to learn to overcome the fear and failure and just be curious enough to experiment with other possibilities. That old saying that “curiousity killed the cat” is bs because cats have nine lives. Cats are pretty agile and if you’ve ever seen one jumping off of a wall or doing back flips in the middle of the living room floor like I have, then you’d know cats are pretty badass. They won’t go without a fight.
You need to be tenacious and persistently explore. With greater learning, with being open to new business models, new sound ideas, whatever you’re looking for, you can only become more successful with curiousity and exploration.
Like I always say: Learn. Explore. Create.
